#543 - Diameter of Binary Tree
Problem Description
Given the root of a binary tree, return the length of the diameter of the tree.
The diameter of a binary tree is the length of the longest path between any two nodes in a tree. This path may or may not pass through the root.
The length of a path between two nodes is represented by the number of edges between them.
Solution
/**
* Definition for a binary tree node.
* function TreeNode(val, left, right) {
* this.val = (val===undefined ? 0 : val)
* this.left = (left===undefined ? null : left)
* this.right = (right===undefined ? null : right)
* }
*/
/**
* @param {TreeNode} root
* @return {number}
*/
var diameterOfBinaryTree = function(root) {
let result = 0;
maxDepth(root);
return result;
function maxDepth(node) {
if (!node) return 0;
const left = maxDepth(node.left);
const right = maxDepth(node.right);
result = Math.max(result, left + right);
return Math.max(left, right) + 1;
}
};
